CEU Course Description
Although great strides have been made in recent years to combat rape, sexual assault, and violence against women, many sexual assaults continue to occur on a daily basis. This intermediate level continuing education course was developed using information from The White House Council on Women and Girls in order to help bring light to this problem and encourage solutions. Topics covered include the scope of the issue, impact on individuals and society, and the criminal justice response to sexual violence. In addition, statistics on rape and sexual victimization among college-age females are discussed.
CEU Course Objectives
1. Outline the breadth of the problem of rape and sexual assault in the United States.
2. Identify individuals and groups most vulnerable to sexual assault, and strategies to assist them.
3. Describe the personal ramifications of sexual violence and as well as the costs for society.
4. Summarize the role the criminal justice system plays in perpetuating sexual victimization.
5. Highlight the steps taken by White House Administration to help break the cycle of violence against women, and future directions.
6. Discuss the prevalence and outcomes of sexual violence on college campuses.
7. Compare characteristics of student and nonstudent female victims of rape and sexual assault.
