CE Course Description

This brief intermediate level continuing education course was developed using material from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.  The purpose of the course is to provide an overview about what science and research says about the effectiveness of meditation for different conditions, particularly psychological stress and well-being. Forms of meditation, current practice and prevalence, research findings, and future directions are discussed.

CE Course Objectives

1. Define meditation, discuss its elements, and evaluate current practice and prevalence.

2. Identify what science says about the effectiveness of meditation for various physical and psychological health conditions.

3. Discuss brain and body changes that occur with meditation as well as safety and side effects of the practice.

4. Summarize findings from key questions related to the effects of meditation on affect, attention, stress, and other health-related behaviors.



Instructor Notes
The Mindful team consists of numerous behavioral health professionals with a plethora of clinical experience as well as backgrounds in higher education, including teaching at the university level. Our three consulting psychologists review the appropriate course material, based on their experience and expertise that aligns with program content, to ensure that it enhances interdisciplinary understanding and is consistent with a systematic, research-based approach to promoting continued education and for synthesizing new knowledge into the clinician’s professional environment.
